Ooty, Udhagamandalam, known in several names like Ootacamund, Udhagai and better known as Ooty, is situated in the Nilgiri district of Tamil Nadu. It is located 80 km north of Coimbatore. It is a popular hill station located in the Nilgiri Hills. Originally occupied by the Todas, the area came under the rule of the East India Company at the end of the 18th century. Today, the town's economy is based on tourism and agriculture, along with manufacture of medicines and photographic film.
Kodaikanal, is a hill town in Tamil Nadu. At 2,000 meters above sea level, it has a cooler climate than the plains below and is a popular holiday destination. The town centers around star-shaped, man-made Kodaikanal Lake, bordered by evergreen forest.

Ooty
The Government Botanical Garden, students here see and learn of around a thousand species, both exotic and indigenous plants, shrubs, ferns, trees, herbal and bonsai plants. In the centre of the Gardens lie a fossilized tree trunk estimated to be 20 million years old. The Gardens consist of several lawns with flowering plants, ponds with lilies, beds of flowers and ferns laid out in an Italian style, several plots of flowering plants, a variety of medicinal plants. The present Botanical Gardens are divided into 6 sections namely Lower Garden, New Garden, Italian Garden, Conservatory, Fountain Terrace and Nurseries.
Doddabetta, is the highest mountain in the Nilgiri Hills at 2,637 meters (8,650 feet). There is a reserved forest area around the peak. There is an observatory at the top of Doddabetta with two telescopes available for the public to enjoy the magnificent panoramic view of the whole district. Students can view the beautiful scenery & the Chamundi Hills.
Ooty Lake, is an artificial lake constructed by John Sullivan, in 1824. The water flowing down mountain streams in the Ooty valley was dammed to form the lake. The lake houses a boat house and students can go boating here.

Kodaikanal
Shenbagnur Museum, students here can see the archaeological remains, the flora and fauna of the hills. One of the best orchidoriums in the country with more than 300 species of orchids is also housed here. It is about 5.6 Kms from the lake. A Spanish Father Ugarthe, contributed his major collections to the Museum. A collection of butterflies, moths and birds by various students.
Coakers walk, students can enjoy the view with this walk with its telescope house and picturesque Kodai lake. It is a narrow pedestrian path, constructed by Lt. Coaker in 1872, a one kilometer mountain road which runs along the edge of steep slopes on the southern side of Kodai road which is 1/2km away from Kodai. The walk winding around Mt. Nebo provides a wide-angle spectacular view of the plains. On a cloudless, clear day one can have interesting sights, such as.... Dolphin's nose in south, valley of the Pambar river in South East, birds eye view of Periyakulam and even city of Madurai. One must be aware of a fascinating phenomenon called 'Brachem Spectre', a very lucky person can see his shadow on the clouds with a rainbow halo, when sun is behind and cloud and mist is in his front.
