Deoriatal to Chandrashila peak trek is the best beginner’s Himalayan trek you can start with. Chandra means moon and shila means rock i.e. "Moon Rock". It is situated at an elevation of about 13,000 feet above sea level. The Chandrashila peak provides a spectacular view of the Himalayas, especially Nandadevi, Kedar Peak, Bandarpoonch (Saraswati Devi) Trishul, and Chaukhamba peaks. There are various stories (myths) associated with this place, one is, that Lord Ram meditated after defeating the demon king Ravan. According to another myth which says that the Hindu moon god Chandra spent time here in repentance. Chandrashila peak offers impressive vantage point that gives you panoramic 360 degrees views of the mighty Himalayas. Deoriatal is perhaps the only trek that provides the maximum fruits for the effort you give. The three things that are really astounding about Deoriatal Chandrashila peak trek. Chandrashila peak is summit of the Tungnath.
Forests consisting in various types of flora & fauna
The Deoriatal – Chandrashila trek is the best beginner’s forest and majestic peaks view trek amongst all Himalayan range treks. The section between Deoriatal lake and Bhrujgali, is stunning and beyond imagination how varied the jungles can be. There are some sections in which there are thick wooded trees, moss covered trails which runs through enchanting tunnels and that which weave through the exotic jungle. Camping right in the middle of the forest, on a wide clearing at Rohini Bugyal.
Bird watchers paradise
This region boasts of the highest number of species of birds found in the country. There are hundreds of species of birds to see and it’s a photographer’s delight. If there was ever a birders’ trail paradise, then that has got to be Deoriatal. Deoriatal has more to offer about birding in a day than most of the other treks anywhere.
The climb to the grand summit
The climb to the summit of Chandrashila. The moment you start your climb up, slowly all the summits of Eastern and Western Uttarakhand jump into your view. As you know the summits seen from Uttarakhand are one of the highest summits of India. This trek is so easy and approachable that as a beginner or as an avid nature lover you get to see all these summits up so close. Getting to the top of Chandrashila summit is considered a blessing as it’s a visual delight and paradise could not get better.
Day 1: Arrival day (Base camp – Sari village)
Sari village is situated in the district of Rudraprayag and at a height of 6554 feet. It is a very remote and small village in Uttrakhand India. It is used as a base camp for the very beautiful lake of Deoria Tal. The beautiful Deoria Tal is only 3 kilometers trek from here. Deoria Tal is situated at a height of 7800 feet. The village of Sari is used as a base camp for Deoria Tal and it is also used as base camp for treks to Tungnath Temple.
• Reporting at Dehradun 6 Am.
• Globalrahee will arrange vehicles to depart from Dehradun at 6:30 am.

• The drive from Dehradun to Sari takes about approx. 10 hours. Expected arrival time at Sari   is approx. 5 pm
• Camping at Sari (overnight)
Day 2: Sari Village to Deoriatal
Deoriatal, 7,800 feet above sea level in Rudraprayag district. Deoriatal is the lake where devatas (as per Hindu mythology) bathed in ancient times. The trek to Deoriatal offers mystical and enchanting views of the snowcapped Himalayan peaks, deep dense forests. For spotting chitals the chances are high here. Get an amazing view of the Himalayas like Chaukhamba, Neelkantha, Bandarpoonch, Kedar range, Kalanag. Trekking and camping are adventurous activites here. Deoriatal Lake according to myth is where Yakshya asked Pandavas the questions on life. According to Mahabharat, when the Pandavas were in exile, thirsty and tired Yudhisthir asked Bhim to look for a place where they could bring water from. Bhim got up on a tree and saw the lake at a distance. Sahadev, the youngest of the Pandavas was ordered to go and bring some water from Deoriatal.
• The Deoriatal trail starts right from Sari village. It’s a very well laid out trek. It’s a    continuous rise to Deoriatal and the gradient is medium.
• It takes a couple of hours to reach Deoriatal, and you gain an altitude of 1,240 feet and the    trek is just 3 km from Sari Village.
• The trek takes you out of the Sari village and you enter the Rhododendron forest. As you    climb up, you will look down and catch the beautiful view of Sari village.
• Watch the setting sun’s play of colours on Kedar and Chaukhamba peaks from Deoriatal.
• As you trek you can hear the never ending calls of the lovely birds all day through.
• Make a circuit of the Deoriatal Lake and go up the watch tower and enjoy the beautiful    sunset.
• Camp overnight Deoriatal.
Day 3: Deoriatal to Rohini Bugyal (Bugyal literally means meadows) Rohini Bugyal is a serene and secluded meadow, surrounded by the most beautiful rhododendron forests. The lofty peaks of Kala Parvat dominate the skies and with the setting sun you can see it being lit up majestically, which is the major highlight of camping here. It is nature at its subtle best. You can hear the chirping of birds and sounds the wind makes while whistling through the forests. Finding varied species of Himalayan birds from this camp is very easy. It is good to have binoculars and cameras to observe and take photos of birds here.
• The trek to Rohini Bugyal takes about 5 hours covering a distance of 8 km and gaining an    altitude of 1000 feet.
• From here you can see Chandrashila peak, Kala Parbat, Kedar-dome, and Bisurital on the    way.
• This trek takes you past Bisurital, and then to the ridge which goes over Sari village.
• After descending from the ridge, the trail takes you through five different varieties of    forests - Rhododendrons, Oaks & Maple are the major ones which is pleasing sight for the    eyes.
• The trek down the hill through the forests is perfect for birding and photography. The    Verditer Flycatcher and Himalayan woodpecker are very easy to spot here. Langoors and    foxes are also easy to spot here.
• The walk during the last lap to Rohini Bugyal is abundant with forests giving way to    Bugyals or meadows.
• Night camp at Rohini Bugyal is picture perfect with incomparable views of sunset.
Day 4: Rohini Bugyal to Bhrujgali
• The trek involves travelling through the ridge of Rohini Bugyal to the Bhrujgali meadows.
• The trek takes you through the dense forested ridge, coming down to a stream that has to    be crossed and enter the beautiful meadow of Malyadhar.
• After reaching meadows of Bhrujgali, take a look to the breath-taking view of the forested    ridge of Tikidi Khal and from Kedarnath side, view the lovely peaks.
• The trek to Bhrujgali takes about 4 hours, climbing 1037 feet and covering a distance of    just 6 km.
• Bhrujgali camp overnight.
Day 5: Bhrujgali to Chandrashila Peak via Tungnath and back to Bhrujgali
At Chandrashila Peak, you get a 360 degree view of Garhwal and Kumaon mountain range. Trek past a temple, see some of the great mountains in Uttarakhand, like Trishul, Nanda Devi, Dunagiri, Kamet, Kedardome, Thalaysagar, Chaukhamba, Jahanukut, Gangotri ranges, and more. The sunrise view from these spots on the trek is the best you will get to see in the Himalayas.
• Take an early trek; best before sunrise, that way u get to see the majestic and a    magnificent sunrise.
• The trek takes 4 hours covering a distance of 7 km.
• The trek to Tungnath is via a cemented pilgrim trail.
• The trail is steep but comfortable and has a series of 11 hair pin bends and the walk is    pleasant.
• The trek takes you through a section of Bhoj trees (Betula utilis or the Himalayan birch)    before reaching Tugnath temple. En route you will find birds like Griffin vulture and monal,    which are in plenty here.
• From Tungnath to Chandrashila peak is a steep climb of 600 feet.
• From the top of Chandrashila peak, you get to see a 360 degree view of the beautiful and    scenic Garhwal and Kumaon range of mountains.
• From Chandrashila peak trek back to Bhrujgali via the same route, and overnight camp at    Bhrujgali.
Day 6: Bhrujgali to Chopta
Chopta offers a stunning view of Himalayan peaks Kedar and Chaukhamba. Chopta is also known as Mini Switzerland of India and is a major point of the trek to Tungnath & Chandrashila.
• Bhrujgali to Chopta is just about 1 km and will takes less than an hour.
• Throughout the trek is downhill which goes through picturesque surroundings of    rhododendron forests.
• At Chopta you will have to show your forest permits to the Forest Guards here.
• During the tourist season there are a few food outlets here.
• A few private guest lodges are also available in Chopta.
• The trek is after breakfast you will reach Chopta by 11 am.
Chopta to Dehradun
• Globalrahee will arrange pick up from Chopta to Dehradun around 11 am.
• The drive takes around 8-10 hours.
